Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change my name, instrument, or password information after I register?
Due to the nature of the subscription, each user may select one instrument that cannot change for the duration of the subscription.  If you need access to melodies for more than one instrument, you will need to purchase additional subscriptions.  Individual users may update their personal information at any time.  Student users must have their administrators do this for them.

But I just signed up and ACCIDENTALLY PICKED THE WRONG INSTRUMENT!!!
Send an email to support@sightreadthis.com and we'll take care of you.

What if I forget my password?
For individual users and administrators, click here.  If you are a student user, your director/teacher will be able to tell you your current password.  If you are an administrator who needs student passwords, please contact us at support@sightreadthis.com.

If I play more than one instrument, do I need another user logon?
Yes. We realize that this may be an inconvenience to the few students who play more than one instrument, however, it is the only effective way for the program to accurately track the melodies you have played.

Do I need any plug-ins to see and hear the music?
Any basic web browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape will allow you to see the melodies.  To hear the melodies, you may need to install a plugin that will play MIDI files.   Click here to go to the MIDI test page.  There will be instructions on that page if your browser does not yet play MIDI files.

A melody appeared that is out of the range of my instrument. Did I do something wrong?
If this happens, please report the melody to us at support@sightreadthis.com so we can correct the problem.

Can I print the melodies?
According to the End User License Agreement that you (or your administrator) agreed to, the use of SightReadThis.com includes not reproducing these copyrighted melodies in any fashion without express written permission from SightReadThis.com.  Obviously, though, we're operating on the honor system here.  Administrative users will have testing materials available to them that have specific licenses for printing and copying.

Your program won't do everything I want it to do. Can I request new features?
YES! We will continue to update and refine the features already present on SightReadThis.com, and plan to add new features in the future. Your ideas and comments are welcome! Use the "contact us" menu to reach us, or email us at support@sightreadthis.com

I play tenor sax. Will my melodies be the same as those for alto sax? What about playback? Will the melody be transposed correctly?
All of the melodies can be played by any instrument, regardless of transposition. The playback transposition and melody range will be based on the instrument you selected when you registered.

If I purchase a group subscription, will I be able to add new logons at a later date?
Additional logons can be purchased, but the subscription time period will be the same as the original group subscription.

Will I be notified when my subscription expires?
Renewal notices will be emailed to all subscribers prior to subscription expiration.

Can I run your program on a Mac/PC/UNIX-based system?
Yes – any computer with Internet access and a fairly current Web browser should work well. We highly recommend using IE 5.0+ or Netscape 6.2+, however either IE 4+ or NS 4+ browsers should work fine.

I have a computer, but can’t get on the Internet.  Is there any way I can use your program?
Not yet. To utilize the features of SightReadThis.com, you must have Internet access. We are researching CD ROM versions of SightReadThis.com, but no such licenses are available at this time.

Who writes the melodies for SightReadThis.com?
The melodies are written by composers and are NOT COMPUTER GENERATED. Each melody was written according to a specific list of parameters (also available on this site).

The music is too small to read easily.  Is there any way to make the notes bigger?
You must change the screen resolution for your monitor.  For Windows users, right-click on the desktop, choose "properties", and click the "Settings" tab.  In the "screen area" slide bar, move the pointer to the "more" side.  Click OK.

On some of the melodies the slurs, dynamics, double flats, etc., overlap the notes on the staff.  Should I report these to you?
Because of the extreme number of transpositions of each melody, it is possible one passed by without being examined carefully.  Therefore, it is possible a melody, especially in the higher levels, may have an error in editing on certain transpositions.  If any melody has become unreadable, please notify us immediately and we will correct the problem.  Include the melody level, number, and key.  Email: support@sightreadthis.com

Can I change the tempo of the melody playback?
Not at this time, but we are considering adding this feature on future versions.
